Annual BACAC Conference of Biosafety Association for Central Asia and
the Caucasus on “Biosafety and Zoonotic Diseases ‘was held from May 18th
to May 20th 2009 at Alatau Resort, Almaty, Kazakhstan
and was attended by Dr Anwar Nasim (Patron in Chief PBSA) and
Ms.Shahida Mumtaz Qureshi.(Treasurer PBSA)

Following Pre-Conference Training Workshop was held on May 18th
2009 which were very beneficial and provided important information.

Risk Assesment was delivered by Barbara Johnson

Safety Cabinets was delivered by Maureen Ellis

BSL-3 Laboratories – was delivered by Ted Trauman

Dr.T.M Chua President of Asia –Pacific Biosafety Association
delivered a talk on Integration of a Global Biosafety Community. His
presentation highlighted some of the challenges of the global
Biosafety Community and the cooperation of the International Community
in their effort to identify gaps and formulate programmes.
Dr.
J. Craig Reed President Inspiron Biosciences Associate, International
Center for Infectious Diseases Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada delivered
talk on International Biosafety Working Group (IBWG) , which is an
international association of Biosafety associations..Members of the
IBWG are national and international organizations with a recognized
mandate in biological safety, including seven of the world’s leading
Biosafety associations. The IBWG offers a unique opportunity for
Biosafety professionals of different nations to coordinate and develop
a global Biosafety agenda aimed at International harmonization,
sharing of information, development of common standards and
collaboration in all aspects of biological safety. The goal is to
create, coordinate and empower an international Biosafety advisory
body, establish, document, maintain and communicate standardized
Biosafety protocols.
There were other
executive speakers that addressed the conference and presented their
research papers which were highly informative. The BACAC conference
was a great success in bringing scientists and specialists together to
share their work , help each other and contribute in solutions of
Biosafety problems.
