WORKSHOP ON LABORATORY BIOSAFETY AND CONTAINMENT
FACILITIES Oct 05-09 2009 ISLAMABAD PAKISTAN
One week Workshop on
Lab Biosafety and Containment facilities was organized by Patron in
Chief of PBSA Dr Anwar Nasim and Founder Member PBSA Dr. Aamir Ikram
in Islamabad Pakistan from Oct 05-09, 2009.This workshop was attended
by 42 participants from various institutes from Pakistan.
This event was sponsored by COMSTECH and HEC Government of Pakistan.
Keynote Speaker for this workshop was Dr Irfan Shami from Ministry of
Foreign affairs while Air Commodore Mr Khalid Banora
Director ACDA, Strategic
Plans Division gave a very informative talks on
Pakistan’s effort to promote Biosafety in the country.
This workshop was also addressed by eminent
International speakers in field of Biosafety Dr Terrence Taylor, Dr
Bob Hawley, Dr Victoria Sutton and Dr Sean Kaufman through Video
conference.
Founder members of
PBSA participated actively in this workshop by delivering talks on
various Biosafety related topics. Dr Erum Khan (President PBSA) gave
presentation on National Biosafety Our Concern, Dr Aamir Ikram
(Founder member) gave talks on BTWC legislations and Animal Biosafety,
Dr Altaf Ahmad (Founder Member) shared his views on Construction of
BSL-3 facility, while Dr Shamsul Arfin Qasmi (General Secretary PBSA)
and Ms Maqboola K Dojki (Program Coordinator PBSA) gave talks on
Fundamentals of Biosafety Cabinets and BSL -3 Lab Operations and
Maintenance.
Visit to BSL-3 Lab at
NIH Islamabad was also planned for the participants on the final day.
Dr Anwar Nasim in his concluding remarks urged the
Participants to work actively and closely with each other in creating
Biosafety and
Biosecurity Awareness at their Institutions and cities.
